Do speakers and electric motors interfere?

Hi Folks and hello from Ireland. I have a question which may be bleeding obvious but I figured I'd ask it anyways as, while I'm pretty mechanically minded, electronics to me are somewhere between voodoo and reiki. I have a 1988 Land Rover Defender which I'm hoping to build into an expedition/camping vehicle. I was just about to cut up part of the dash to install a speaker (no stereo was ever in this car before) when I noticed that, even with speaker spacers the back of the speaker would be about 5mm from one of the heating motors. So my question is : will a large electromagnet so close to an electric motor cause interference? Should I be looking for a different place to put the speakers? I'd prefer not to end up in a situation where I can have heating or music. (if you've ever been in an old Defender you'll understand why. thanks for your help! It is possible for an electric motor to cause interference, but generally not directly in a speaker. Much more likely is causing a hum at the frequency of the fan's rotation by inducing a signal into the speaker wire. If you must install the speaker in this location be sure the speaker wire is run in such a way that it is as far from the motor as possible.Support the12volt.com
