I just bought a 98 Tacoma 4x4 regular cab and it already has a Panasonic Cd player, which I don't like. I had my new Kenwood taken out of my car and then lost my job, so I'm going to have to install the Kenwood in my truck myself. Any suggestions or advice since I know basically nothing about installations??? Thanks!

you'll find the color codes here:

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1997-98&make=Toyota&model=Tacoma&ID=19052&type=Stereo

if you have a newer panasonic and kenwood, the wire colors, not plugs, will match up.

you have 2 little 'poppits' on the cover just above the tranny hump - one on each side.  gently push in the center and then pull the 'poppit' out.  to put those back in, you need to pull the center pin out, insert the 'poppit' back in the hole and push the center pin in.

remove the knobs from the a/c fan, cold/hot, selectors switches.  gently pry the display up and under that you'll find 2 screws that holds the surround in place.

remove the ashtray, you may find a screw in the back to take out. (it's been a while since i had my tacoma)   you don't need to take out the 2 screws that holds the metal ashtray bracket.

now you can pull the surround off of the dash.  unplug the cigarette lighter and clock (if you have one).  you should see the four 8mm bolts that holds your radio in.  remove those and your old radio will come out.

take the brackets off of the side of your old ones and put those on your new deck.

connect up the wires, put it all back together and you should be done.
