Dear sirs

Can you please help me! My stereo cuts out when I turn it up to a high volume, the facia will begin to flicker then it turns itself off. I have two amps running, 1x kicker and 1x alpine v12, all in all probably about 500 watts RMS. My alternator is 55amp I think, so if I uprated it to 90 amp would this eliminate this problem that I'm having? Or if not how about a power cap?  The alpine amp runs my sub and it's protector light flashes red when I turn the volume up, does this mean the amp is screwed or is it just that the battery is struggling? Please can you give me some advice

Many Thanks in advance

Alex Burrell

The protection light could mean either it's not getting enough voltage (charging system problem) or there's a speaker short.  But as for the head unit, when does it turn itself back on?  do you have to wait a few minutes for it to cool down?  or will it go right back on immediately as long as you turn the ignition off and then on again?

My guess would be the ground for your deck.  I just finished on a car with the same problem at Circuit City. Check the ground and make sure the paint is scratched off and its not grounded to a small piece of metal.  If it is run a ground wire to the car's actual chassis.  Hope that helps....
