I have a 96 Grand Caravan that just came with a cassette/radio. I bought a newer 1999 CD/cassette/radio removed from a Caravan which is essentially the same but deeper and has a CD player. Also the factory plug ins (one gray one black) are in different positions.

I installed the new CD/cassette/radio and at first everything worked OK except the speaker balance. No sound out of the right speakers. The fade worked but not the balance. Then other stuff started not working, like I couldn't toggle to fm. Anyone know if it is possible to put a newer CD/cassette/radio into a 96 caravan that came with just a cassette/radio originally. The Dodge service guy said that the gray and black factory plug ins may fit, but the wiring is different and that you can only put a CD in a caravan that originally came with a CD player. This doesn't make sense since you can put just about any aftermarket system into a caravan. Could the headunit bad? or is the wiring different with a CD player/cassette combo?

Thanks.

The vehicle is essentially the same in wiring . The only difference would have been if the Caravan that you have was or wasn't the Infinity system. The CD/tape is probably an Infinity deck that has low current speaker outputs and requires an amplifier. Does the newer deck have a white 2 pin plug on the back of it ? It's really small and looks like a femail molex connector. If you have your old deck, just put it back in to make sure that everything still works properly as far as speakers are concerned.
