If I install a cut-off switch on the power wire leading to my amp, will it hurt anything? I mean would it affect the system any? Any help would be appreciated.

Doing this will not hurt anything.  In most of my installation we do this so the costomer has the choice of running their amp or not.  You can also put a switch on your remote wire leading to your amp.

Put a toggle switch on remote wire not the (constant) power cable going to the amp.
