If your woofer you're talking about is a subwoofer you will need an external amp and a box. It depends how you hook it up. If its a dual voice coil model you can hook it up to the amp differently than a single voice coil sub. If it is a midrange in a component speaker set then you will need a crossover. and if it's a coaxial speaker you can just connect that directly to your head unit. I could not find your model of head unit or amp so I dont know the power handling of your speaker or wattage of your HU.

So your saying your sub is basically a sub/box/amp package in one box? If so then run one set of rca cables from your pioneer head-unit to the sub/amp. If your pioneer head-unit dosnt have preamp outputs then connect a line level convertor (gives you preamp outputs for your sub from speaker cables) to either the front or back left and right speaker's positive and negative wires coming from your Head-unit. Then run the rca cables from that to your amp/sub combo. Tell me if this is what your setup is like or not.pioneer set up -- posted image.

This is obviously a self powered speaker, more than likely a small woofer, a search on Pionner GB sire showed me no results. What size is the speaker itself? Does the amp have a rca type input on it?

Your cd player will have rca outputs - they may be labelled front / rear / sub. You may only have one rca output, two outputs or all 3 (I hope). You will need an rca cable that connects one of these outputs (the sub hopefully) to the rca input on the TS-LX40. You will also need to run a turn on lead that turns this built in amp on when the cd player turns on. It is the blue or blue / white wire on the back of your cd player, connect this lead to the remote on input of the TS-LX40. Obviously you will also need a ground and power direct from the battery, this is not a monster amp by any means, a 12 gauge power wire is probably more than enough, make sure the power line is fused no more than 18" from the battery. The fuse size needs to be at least the same size as that in the built in amp on the TS-LX40.

The cd player itself has enough power in it to run your front and rear speakers. Before we can recommend speakers for you, we need to know the year, make, model of the vehicle. While we probably don't have your particular vehicle on this side of the water, we can get you close. It is in your best interest to remove what speakers may be in the current vehicle so as to match it to a new speaker for sizing purposes. To choose a speaker on the forum, well let's just say that everyone will recommend this brand over that one. Listen to speakers and buy the ones that your ears like and will fit your budget. Do not worry too much about the wattage of the speakers, they produce only what they are given. When you find the ones that you like, post up what they are on this same thread.

I wouldnt reccomend running 12 gauge wire to your sub/amp combo unless its less then like 6 feet away from your battery. Go with 10 gauge and the ground cable dosnt go to the batter it should be attached directly to your car's chassis(find a screw on your vehicle close to sub and scrape away any paint and make sure its cleann then attach ground wire). If you're looking for an easy way to see what speakers fit your vehicle go to this link http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-EL41FJeiRzg/autoinfo/autoinfo.asp?s=0&cc=01&vehicleid=0 enter your vehicle info and they tell you what fits. If you buy from Crutchfield they give you excellent instructions for taking off door panels or the dash etc. They also give you lifetime product tech support and free instalation accessories you will need like a wiring harness and speaker adaptor plates.

No offence customsuburb, but do you have an idea how many amps over the years have used 12 gauge for the power and ground lines and for how many years they have used them. A step back in time reveals Linear Power, Rockford Fosgate, Orion, Precision Power, Alphasonik, Alpine and the list goes on. Why I suggested a 12 gauge for him is have a close look at the size of his driver, 12cm or about 4.75". Now I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I sure as heck would not need a 10 gauge, probably not even a 12 gauge to properly power a 4" speaker. While yes it is an amp, it probably has a very low current draw and I imagine the user is not going to be playing this thing at full output. He will probably only be drawing about 50% of the fuse value. 40w peak power = 15 w rms for Pioneer (approximate) or about the same as 1 channel of power in his head unit, see where I'm going with this? Notice as well that the poster is in Ireland, so you can pretty much throw Crutchfield out the window for him anyhow.
