I am interested in a touch screen monitor to hook a computer up to in my car.  Like a 6.5 to 8 inch monitor.  Pioneer and Kenwood each offer these.  How would I connect them?  The touchscreen info cant travel through the composite cables can they?

Maybe I should expand on my situation, I was brief before because I was rushed to leave so I wrote my post quickly.  What I want to do, is have a computer in my trunk.  This will be a normal windows computer, not one of these "made-for-car computers."  I will have a monitor in my dash, not a flip out monitor/head unit, just a screen.  I would love to have a touch screen so that I could navigate windows by simply touching the screen, otherwise I will have to find a place to put a little finger pad, like the ones they use on laptops, or something like that.  My question is, is there any way to connect a computer to a touchscreen like the one that comes with kenwood or pioneer navigation systems.  You can purchase them separate from the navigation sytem, so I would only buy the monitor.  The computers video outputs would not transmit the touchscreen information, as far as i know.  So is there any way to use the touch screen feature with windows?  Would I need drivers?  Also I have heard of people converting normal monitors into touchscreens for car use, does anyone know how to do this?

thanks in advance.

How handy are you with a soldering iron?  Here's one: http://earthlcd.com/stn78.htm

Here's a couple that require less work: http://www.xenarc.com/product/700ts.html#700TS%20Images

Good luck!

I have the lilliput, it is an awesome screen. It is slightly better than the xenarc, in my opinion. I have not seen the 8" lilliput before, but I imagine it will be just as good as the 7"
the earthLCD is by far the best deal, but you need to know quite a bit about LCD screens in order to install that.
If you want to use a kenwood, or pioneer screen, you could always search for an aftermarket touchscreen that is the same size as the screen, then install it afterwards. It would then hook up by most likely USB to your computer. THe problem with this is that you will not have as of visablilty through the touchscreen, you will have to modify the screen housing which could get some what nerve wracking, you will also have a crappy screen resolution. Those screens from kenwood and pioneer are most likely meant for just DVD and gaming. You will probably end up having a resolution of under 640x480. You will not be able to see small text on the screen, and it will be blurry. Personally I would go onto EBAY and look for the lilliput. Make sure you dont get a used one, but there are a lot on there in thebuy it now option that are brand new in box. Shipping from honk kong cost me something like 20 canadian dollars. I like in Saskatchewan Canada. Make sure you check that it has touchscreen though.
Also, this computer system that you have in your car.. do you have it in there right now? IF it is working for you then cool, but depending on how you are hooking up power, you could get a bad sinewave that will put a buzz in your sound output. I would suggest getting a new powersupply that is DC-DC. Going from DC-AC-AC-DC MIGHT cause problems

I do not have a computer in the vehicle yet.  I am very conscerned about sound quality though and would not keep this system if it did have bad noise problems.  I was planning on getting a nice power inverter for my car that I would plug the computer into.  By power supply you mean the computers power supply I assume.  where could I find these?  Also I can anyone else vouch for the quality of the lilliput screens?  My main worry about the range of viewing angles will be very slim, or the image will become distorted and shake when the bass hits.  I have witnessed some cheap screens do this, while alpine dvd player screens in the same room were fine.

Any touch screen will have a band angle of view. The touchscreen is a thin transperant layer places overtop of the LCD screen, and you will see almost a grainy texture whent he sun shines on it. Lilliput is not a cheap screen, in my opinion, and most people on MP3car.com's opinion, there are two screens.. the lilliput and the xenarc. http://www.digitalww.com/lilliput_vs_xenarc.htm  The xenarc is a little more expensive as far as I know...   And as far as the screen bouncing, if your head is vibrating, it will appear as though the screen jumps, this you cant help... for instance, if you put your head up against the head rest and the sub is really pounding, the screen will appear to jump. You can really notice it if you have a pounding house stereo by your computer. Put your back against the wall when the stereo is pounding and look at your monitor. You wont be able to read anything on the screen it will jump so bad. I think it more depends on the refresh rate of the monitor more than anything. The higher the refreshrate, the less you will notice it appear to jump.

The inverter might work perfectly, some people have had no problem, but if you want to do it right, pay the money and get an OPUS power supply. (well, that depends if you are using an ATX or mini ITX motherboard) it you have an ATX board, then use the opus, if you have a mini ITX board, then you want to get this http://www.mini-box.com/pw-70.htm  you can find the OPUS here http://www.opussolutions.com/150watt.html  they are somewhat expensive, but they work
