I have a 1996 Eclipse with the Inifnity sound system in it. It has the in-dash tape player with the 10 disk cd changer. I would like to replace the deck and all of the speakers.

Is it possible to still keep the cd changer and connect it to an aftermarket deck?

Am I going to run into any problems changing the deck or the speakers being that the Inifnity system is in there now?

Will I have to completely remove the control unit under the passenger seat?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this just a normal installation?

You will need an adapter harness to go from the eclipse changer to the new deck. Unless of course the eclipse changer is made by a company like pioneer, or clarion etc. Then you just need to buy a changer made by the same company with the same plug. I do think however that the eclipse has a specialized changer, which means you have to try to track down an adapter plug

Anyone else have any info? What about just general installation of a deck? Do I need anything besides a standard harness? Will I have to rewire the speakers in? I know there is something under the passenger seat that looks like it controls everything.

not sure if your system is the same as the infinity systems in the dodge trucks.  In my roomates truck we had to replace everything, each of the speakers had the amp built right on the speaker, and there was no harness available to use either the HU or the Changer, so we scrapped it all =/.

it's pretty unlikely that you'd be able to keep the factory changer operational with a aftermarket h/u. factory changers seldom (if ever) have plugs that will work with aftermarket h/u's, and no manufacturer that i'm aware of mass produces any adaptors for such applications. you can easily find adaptors for aftermarket changers to work with factory decks, but not the other way around.
you won't have to remove the factory amp under the passenger seat, but i would suggest that you disconnect it and use the speaker output wires there to connect to your head unit. replacing the speakers should be nothing special.
good luck!

The speakers are just connected by speaker wire so I guess I lucked out there. I just ordered some new door speakers and back side speakers so I will see how the sound is. Will the head unit just plug right in with an adaptor harness? Or am I going to actually have to remove the infinity stuff?
