I just got a Caprice and I'm not too sure what to do with it. I am a newby here and think you guys could help. I just want a loud, clean sound. I don't like the oblongs (4x6, 6x9's) it's got, so plates (kappa 462.5 cfp) are going into the front doors for ease and in the back deck I was going to hang two enclosures with 8's (kicker competitions). My specific question is about the enclosure size. For these it's recommended .4 to 1.8ft^3 this is a pretty big range, from tiny little things to half my trunk (OK not half a Caprice trunk). But what kind of difference will I experience from the two extremes, what should I shoot for? Any other comments welcome about setting this up are welcome.

If you are going for a tight bass and mid-bass for overall music, and not a heavy deep base boom...(which seems like you are because you are mounting them on the rear deck and using 8" woofers)...I would keep the boxes on the small side and build them sealed.  The smaller box size will keep the frequencies from going much below 30 Hz, and will probably sound better.  Add a half pound of polyester fill to each box.  I can imagine that the .4 size is there for those who want to put these woofers in a real small space, and you have plenty of room.  Measure the area and see if you can allow for about .75 ft^3 air space in each one.  1.8 seems large for one 8" to me.  Don't they give you recommended air spaces for different qualities of output?  Such as, for SPL or for SQ, for sealed or for ported?

I just looked these up on the Kicker website.  They show a max air volume of 1.2 for both sealed and ported.  Min sealed is .5, vented min. is .8

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

(etc.) The plate speakers are up to 60rms and 180max and the 8's are 50-200rms / 400max {/p}{p}Watcha think?{/p}{/TD}{/TR}{TR UNABLE="on" hb_tag="1"}{TD style="FONT-SIZE: 1pt" height=1 UNABLE="on"}{DIV id=hotbar_promo}{/DIV}{/TD}{/TR}{/TABLE}

You're right about speaker connections, subs are often wired together to achieve an ohm load for the amp, and often share the same enclosure.  It is easier, when they share a box, to have one connection to the amp.  In your case, wire them in stereo, one to each channel,  just like the front speakers.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

btw - I gave poor specifications. They're cvr's which do call for .4 to 1.8 cubic feet for a sealed enclosure
