I am trying to install 2 more amps to power the front and rear channels. When I chain the remote on link I get a weird noise through the subs even when the other amps are not on.  When hooking up multiple amps do I need to use a heavy gage wire for the remote on? Currently using 18 gage that came with the amp kit that I bought.

either use a relay (1st choice) or use the +12V igniton wire to turn on the amps [the red one on most aftermarkets (2nd choice)]

I would recommend using a relay.

Can' the high end head unit manufacturers get the drift and wire heads with a remote wire that would handle several amps?

Sounds like a problem other than your amp turn on wire if you hear the noise when the amp are off.  But in order to get a better understanding of your problem can you give in detail the noise.  Is it a whine, thump and does it increase as you accelerate.

you have a consensus.... wire a relay to the HU's remote lead and let it carry the load of mulitple amps.....

Thanks guy's, I appreciate the information. What type of relay will I need to use? I don't want to sound stupid but, it has been several years since I have delt with installs. I have done a few systems in the past (at least 10 years ago) and have since fell away from booming car systems and dove into home theater systems.

The last system that I had in my 95 Z28 consisted of all MTX products including 3 mtx amps but, I can't remember how I had them hooked up.

I will try the relay thing.

As far as the noise that I am getting, it is a short whine then a thump. It goes away for a few seconds then repeats it's self. The car wasn't running at the time. Had the ignition in acc. And only had the daytona firestorm amp hooked up with no speaker leads to it. It is a used amp that I picked up and I was testing it to make sure that it fired up ok. I was told that the amp is in great working condition. Maybe there is actually a problem with it?

yeah the amp sounds like it could cause the problem. do you have all of the amps grounded together? if you do, try separating them...

if you were running this one potentially problematic amp "no load" then where exactly were you hearing this whine -then thump... from the amp itself?   was the HU turned on?
