Iv been uptading my system with my new additions (bottom) and im havin some trouble with gettin the subs and the 6x9s powered by my 2ch amp. I tried running the subs in series to one of the chs and the 6x9 the same way to the other ch. I want to run each channel at a 2ohm load to get the best resonse from my amp but i cant understand how much power im creating cause for 1 i dont understand wat my Subs ohm rating even means (Dual 2/4 ohms)??? is it 2 or is it 4? So and everything was bumpin for a few hrs then the sound and bass began to fade and sound terrible so I turned them off to keep them from damaging. Someone told me I need to cross over the loads, if so how would i do that , and do I need is it best to wire them in series or parallel? But anyway I turned it on to, cause my amp has high and low pass crossover settings on it, could i just adjust them?

If anyone knos wat my prob is or could help me out, let me know id really help.  thanks

First off, do not try and hook up the 6x9's and the subs to the amp. It is not designed to operate in this fashion safely. Do not play with the crossovers on the amp at all with all these speakers hooked up to it.

Next, your subs more than likely are dual 4 ohm but a check with a meter will verify this.

Here is the proper way to hook these subs up to your amp safely (if they are dual 4 ohm - find out for sure).

Wiring Option #2

Yeah, never use 1 amp to power subs and full range speakers.  Even if you have HP/LP coils and capacitors in the circuit, they are so inefficient you lose A LOT of power.  Quit being cheap and buy a second amp or power the rear speakers off the radio

get a new amp to power those subs, your trying to cut corners and your just going to wind up destroying ur equipment and kick'n urself in the ass later. Trust me as I'm sure everyone will agree with me that if you want great sound, dont cut corners. Get the proper equipment to run your setup properly.

I was on Alpine.com and saw this image and i was wondering if Alpine is wrong in telling people that this is a good setup. (see picture)

That would be a 4 channel amp there, , 2 channels are running the Fronts with there own crossover network, , then the rear chanels are bridged to the sub and they have there own crossover net work too.

You should run your 6x9's off your deck, , and bridge your subs onto that 2 channel amp you got, , or do your equipment sum justice, , and bring it to a shop to let them set it up for you.  After its set  up, , keep your pinkies off the gain and boost controls.

In this case, it is more than a two channel amplifier, possibly a four, or now they make what is referred to as a five channel amplifier. They are designed to run four sets of speakers, and a sub being the fifth channel. IMO, it is a better choice to buy dedicated amplifiers for what you want to amplify.

Sorry, I should have said, "NEVER use 1 2-Channel amp to power..."

Guys that could also be a 2 channel amp and still use caps and coils to make it operate. As it is a generic picture we need to consider this possibility as well. Even though it does not relate to the question first posed. That said though, it is a safe assumption to also think that it is a 4 channel amp bridged into 3 channels.
