I started a thread asking about Memphis amps vs. Alphasonik.
Lots of people had nothing bad to say about Memphis, but after looking at its numbers, compared to Soundstream, I found Soundstream claims much better numbers (S/N Ratio, etc),  plus it cost a lot less.
Is soundstream in the same league as Memphis (amplifier wise), or is soundstream a poorly made amp with good quality?
What Kind of amp would you buy on a moderate-high budget?
Looking to spend no more than 1000 dollars for a 1600rms watt amplifier

Memphis has a really nice 1500W amp http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/products/details.asp?id=26.  Its selling on Ebay for $350  http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/products/details.asp?id=26.   I would assume a shop would sell it for around $500.  I would definalty recommend that over a Soundstream.

I have no experience with Soundstream but if this will help you their is a very respected local shop who was a dealer of Soundstream (or maybee still is)  but a few years ago the were the first to bring Memphis here and it has taken off like stick of dynamite.  Like I said they may even still carry Soundstream but from the time you walk in the door they might as well be singing Blue Suede Shoes they are talking about Memphis so much..

I assume you are talking about a mono subwoofer amplifier?  IMO, Memphis is superior to today's Soundstream in terms of sound quality and build quality.  But to answer your question, if I was looking to spend $1000 or so on a subwoofer amplifier, I'd buy a Nakamichi 8001, an Eclipse 7122, or maybe an MMATS 1400 or an Earthquake 2000 or maybe a Harrison Labs 901021.

What about Precision Power?
Also, does the S/N ratio, and THD ratings matter in a mono amplifier?
Would 80dB  and .8%  affect the sound at all???
