Right now i have 6x8 pioneer 3 way door speakers. I want to switch to memphis 2 way component speakers because of the fact that when i turn up the volume on the pioneers the sound is not clear when the bass hits. When i bought the speakers i thought 3 way was better, but now i know that 3 way speakers are for cars that dont have subs. I have looked on the memphis web site and they dont make 6x8 door speakers. Is there any alternative to having these speakers in my car? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thankyou

Three way speakers arn't neccesarily for systems without subs. Usually these three way speakers just have an extra "supertweeter" or two, like your Pionner ones. I think it's a waste. You Don't see any high end speakers with three supertweeters do you? I think the Memphis speakers will sound alot better than the Pioneer ones you have right now.

You can fit 5.25" components in there, and with a little modification (probobly just an MDF ring to hold the woofer in place) you can fit 6.5s in. Another alternative would be to make kickpods.

You can find many speaker adapters used to fit a 5 1/4" or 6" or 6.5" round speaker into a standard 6X8/5X7 opening.  Or you can make your own.

I made my own adapter with MDF and a jig saw. It was easy. Get 6.5" components if you can, the midbass will be slightly more full.

Also, do you have a high pass crossover on the 6x8s? You might want to try that first.

arjx-

i think you should know that a "6x8" and a "5x7" locations actually have the same size speaker opening.  i know its confusing, but we wouldn't want car audio any other way.

i know it's off topic guys, but i would be interested in feedback on memphis car audio in general.  as an independent specialty dealer, the dealer program is very enticing, but quality of product and performance are my primary concern in bringing on a new line

Memphis makes very good, high quality gear.  The company is the creation of Arthur Fulmer (and used to be called Fultron.)  The name "Memphis" comes from his 5-channel "Memphis Belle" amplifier design.   Mostly American-made gear, with honest ratings and very good reliability.  A recomended brand, IMO.  And since this thread began about their component speakers, the Memphis M-Class performs comparibly to sets from Boston, MBQ or Focal.
