I just finished wiring my amp and cap. (PPI DCX 800.5 & Absolute 1.2f) Four days later, I have a dead batt. (stock) Can anyone tell me why? And no, I haven't been "playing" while the car was not running. I ran all wires according to Absolue's diagram in the manual. Pos. (fused 100Amp @ batt.) to dist. block, #1 out to cap, #2 out to amp. Help?

... Doesn't the cap need to be aligned with the amp or will it just automatically pull from it intelligently when it needs to? :/

I'll say this again. Without a PROPERLY UPGRADED ELECTRICAL SYSTEM..DO NOT use a capacitor. You're just adding stress to your alt and battery.

You might also want to have your alt. checked. If you haven't done anything to run your battery down, your alt. may be bad and that will destory your battery.

Thanks Gents. I'll check into my cars elec. syst. But If it continues, Ill just have to loose the cap. In Germany, It costs more to buy an alternator than my entire system. And an optima red top costs over $600! THanks again for the input.

Hmmm, I have never actually heard of a cap draining a system, in fact I am still a subscriber to the theroy that a cap might not always help but It isnt ever gonna hurt you. and to answer the other question a cap does not have to be hooked in line with the amp, just hooked up in the system. I would definatly get the charging system checked out because I would tend to guess this is all a coiincidence and you might have an issue with the charging system

you seem to be glossing over the first part of your post... you just finished hooking up an amp and a cap.... i would suspect the amp more than the cap... is it possible the amp is staying on and draining current?.... did you meter the remote wire or main for current while off??

some amps stay "idle" even when remoted off..... grab an ammeter and see what your current draw is or look for a parasitic drain.....

I totally missed that, I was thinking that the amp was previously installed and he just added a cap. Take Kgerry's advice because he is probally on the right track here. I feel kinda dumb now, must learn to actually read what I am responding to I guess :)
