Hi everyone,

I have a 14' length of 5 gauge power wire that is a few feet too short. Would it be ok to splice the extra length that I need on to one end of the cable that I have or should I buck up and buy a cable that is the right length? If I can splice on the extra length, what is the best way to go about doing it?

You can splice. Strip it back, solder on the extra length, insulate the solder joint with shrink tubing - don't use electrical tape as it will come off. If you don't feel comfortable solder wire that large, you could use a distrubution block or a standard butt-splice. There are splices avaialble at a hardware store that screw down on each side. Again, be sure to properly insulate after the splice.
