i just bought a pair of enclosures for my mr2 and it came with two A/D/S 308rs subs. i've never heard of these subs & really cant find any info online. do you guys know anything about these subs? how do they compare to say 8" kicker solobarics, or jl 8w3's or any descent 8" sub?
on the back of the subs it reads
DVC 4ohm
rms per coil 20-200w (does that mean each sub can handle 400w? not that i would be using that much power...)
thanks

Made by Directed, not bad not great.  Or at least the 312r/s and the 310r/s are, not sure about a "308r/s"...  No, that power rating would be for both coils driven, 200 watts total.

crap... oh well i guess its not so bad i only paid $25 each.
a 4ch amp would be the best choice for these subs right?
i might want to up grade later to some "better" subs that could handle 400w (so that i'm not maxing them out)... i want to run about 600w (300w each sub). what options are out there?
thanks for the reply

I thought the "RS" series of their subs were previous to the DEI aquisition.  I used to run a pair of a/d/s/ 312RS subs, and still have one.

No, a four channel amp would be a generally bad idea, its easily do-able, but its inefficient and would almost definitely be more expensive.  Use a mono or a 2-channel, if you have any questions on what impedance amp to get or how to wire it, just post back here and Im sure we will all be glad to help.

Yes, the series has existed fro several years.  They continue to use the designation today, and anything sold in the last year or so would be a Directed (Orion) made product.  I assumed the poster was talking about something new they just bought?

yeah i just figured that out... thanks. it'd be easier to go with a 2ch amp & have the subs work at 2ohms. if i was to do a mono, i would have to make the subs work at 8ohms correct? since 2 8ohm loads = a 4ohm load? i think i've the basice wiring down... except for how to make the woofers run at either 2oh or 8ohm :(.

these boxes & subs were bough used. one more question about the subs. it give me the rms can be between 20-200 watts. does that mean they can handle... say 250 watts (i'm looking into getting an older style 400w rockford amp (which some say actually exceed the 400w's by like an extra hundred watts? any ideas if that is true or not?)
here's a pic of the amp similar to the one that i'm thinking of getting.

i also got my brothers 4ch RF 400a4 amp as a freebie!
anyhow, anyway i can hook up the 4ch amp to my front component speakers (infity 5000cs) & to the two ADS 308rs 4ohm DVC subs? or do i run the risk of blowing the amp? if not how would i go about wiring the subs for 2ohms? if i run the subs at 2ohms, can i run them off each rear channel... or would i have to run the rears in mono for them to work (same thing though, right?)?
