2000 chevy cavalier wiring guide

yes i'm having trouble hooking up a new pioneer cd player to my 2000 chevy cavailer.........i need a wiring diagram if at all possible to help me out thanks......

That vehicle has no switched wire behind the radio. Using a regular adapter harness will not work without running your own accessory lead. The proper harness for that car supplies a 12 volt accessory lead, and retains your warning chimes (head lights, keys, etc.). You can find this at your local stereo shop.My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

ok my buddy and i hooked up the stereo but it has no remote wire to it so therefore it will stay on when i turn the car off. everything else seems to be working fine just that little problem maybe you know of what i can do to solve it to but please break it down for me a little more and in better details. You mean the factory harness has no switched wire. It sounds like you connected the red wire (switched) on the Pioneer to the yellow (constant). Again, the easiest thing would be to use the proper harness. If you're not concerned about the warning chimes, etc., you can run your own wire to a switched source. You need to find a good source for switched power. You can check the cigarette lighter to see if it's switched with the key or not. If it is, you can connect to the wire behind it that shows 12 volts with the key turned. Another option would be to connect to the thick brown wire in the ignition harness (coming from the ignition switch). It might be easier to get to if you remove a panel from under the dash. Install a fuse whereever you decide to connect (5 amps is more than enough). If this does not make sense, read the sticky "how to figure out stereo wiring".
