I think I just need a new battery, but I read a post here talking about diode isolating a PKG5 or else it will drain the battery. I dont think this could be the problem since I put the remote starter in almost two months ago and the battery died for the first time on Saturday, and then the second time this morning.

I just wanted to make sure that this can only be a cause of a bad battery before I bought one. I have a 2001 Chevy Venture so I thought it would be strange to need a new battery already. The van has 60,000 miles on it if that matters.

The starter is an Autopage 750LCD if that makes a difference, I was thinking that maybe the temperature cold start might be causing a problem since Saturday was really cold, but it wasnt that cold last night.

when you did this work, did you remove the earth cable from the battery? if so sick some grease on it and make sure it is tight! i had this prob with my car.

No I didnt remove the battery terminals and they are tight, any other ideas?

I just dont want to buy a new battery and have it die on me.

Take it to Autozone and ask them to check your battery and charging system(it's free).That way you won't spend any money until you are sure what it is.

That was my post talking about the pkg5 the other night, the one I had that killed the battery was a 2001 venture,

installed the RS in November, it came back in January, with the battery draining twice, took me three runs at testing wires and a tech friend at the dealer(with a handheld GM electrical tester) to figure out the data wire was sending a pulsed 12 volt constantly after RS shut down, after the first drain, the battery died every 12 to 24 hours...This only happened with Modules that shared an OUT WHEN RUNNING between a second ign and the pkg5, I just dioded the out when running wire on the relay harness only, and haven't seen the van since, try unhooking the remote start and bypass for a couple of days, to see if the battery drains, if not, you know this was the problem, hopes this helps.....chris

Wow that has to be it. I will have to check to see if I used my ground out when tunning for something other than just the PKG5, It sounds dumb to say but I dont remember. That is just wierd how it took so long to drain the battery the first time. It is even more ironic how I read your post and said to myself "I am glad that didnt happen to me".

I will be posting a new topic on this one but I thought I would drop it here in case it is related to this problem: I just noticed after I jumped my van this time, that the radio reads: "ERROR". I took it to the dealer and they were a bunch of morons and kept trying to get the codes from it. I kept telling them that these radios learn part of the VIN and do not operate like normal theftlock radios used to. I tried to put a CD/Cass unit in this car and it read "LOCKED" so I knew that would never work. They kept telling me that if I unplug this radio it will lock up. I told them I unplugged it for more than an hour when I was trying to install the CD/CASS one I got from EBAY and when I pluged this one back in it worked fine. This is what I dont get: On Saturday the battery was really dead, no clicking of the starter and barley anything from the dash lights, and the radio worked fine. Now this morning the battery still had some juice and the clock didi not even lose a minute of time, but the radio doesnt work now. WTF

I was lucky it only happened to me once, but at one of our other branches they had a half dozen or so Ventures stagger in over the course of two weeks with the same problem, the bypass manufacturer didn't have any idea the problem existed or how to fix it, they do now and said they'd rectify the problem with the next version, the only problem is how many people are going to have this trouble with this version and not know how to fix it???As for your radio problem, I have no idea..chris
