2002 Dodge Ram II

I had a weired thing happen a while back.  I pulled back on my turn signal to put my lights on bright.  Instead of going to bright, my lights flashed off and then my horn sounded once as the lights came back on.  Then the lights flashed back off and the horn sounded again, and again, and again.  My alarm was going off.  I tried the dimmer switch again and again.  I turned my head lights on and off.  I blew my horn.  I pulled over and turned the truck off, removed the key, inserted the key, and started again.  I did everything but disconnect the battery or fuzes (which I shoud have now that I think about it).  After about 10 minutes of this, my horn stopped blowingl, but the lights kept flashing.  After about 5 more minutes I arrived home.  (eveyone on the road was fed up with me too).  When I got home, I turned off my truck (lights still flashing) and went into my Dad's house to show him this crazy thing.  We walked out onto the porch and after about 45 seconds, the lights stopped flashing.  This problem has never happened since... Odd thing is, I DON'T HAVE AN ALARM!"  Obviously an alarm ready wiring problem.  Any ideas?  This was probably 4 or 5 months ago.  Should I look into this?  Or do you think, I don't have to worry about anything such as....  my truck burning down?

If the vehicle doesn't have an alarm, to your knowledge, you should take it back to the dealership and have them check it out.Certified Security Specialist

I've been sick lately, sorry I won't be on much.

Obviously, the truck is pre-wired from manufacture with all components of the alarm except the sensors and remote (I would have never guessed that before).  This would be because it is cheap enough at manufacture to install incase the owner want's to add the option later.  This would also let you know to decline the option from the dealer and later install your own sensors and remote (saving you some cash).  I was just wondering if anyone had experienced the same thing and had any ideas on the short in the system that caused the prewired alarm to enable.  Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to find that it has one.  I need to finish wiring it up.  Thanks, for your reply!  And I will drop it off with Dodge to take a look at it.

Actually the alarm functions are performed through the bcm, if this is a factory installed option, and there is no pre wiring involved. The reason I said to take it to the dealership is because I have heard about alot of problems with the bcm's in the 02 and 03 rams. Now if it is a dealer installed option I would make them either put the alarm in fully or completely rip it out.Certified Security Specialist
