remote start on 01 tahoe

installing a compustar in my 01 tahoe.  few questions

1. the door locks are + and my alarm puts out - signal do i need to use relays or is there another wire i can tap

2. for the remote start, do i need to wire both ignition's or just the second one.

3. the tach wire on the ecu. i see no connector that is red or says red. the one has ped on it. is this the one i need? its the plug close to the radiator.

1.  Yes, you will need relays to convert the (-) to a (+).  The BCM is very easy to use for the locks.  The Door Locks section has diagrams.

2. Yes, definitly connect both Pink and White ignition wires.  Prevents transmission problems.

3. The Compustar unit should be able to handle a Tach signal from a Fuel Injector or Coil.  Find a convenient F.I. and connect to the non-common wire.

Soldering is fun!

1. You'll probably end up using relays as they're cheap and readily available. However, if you go to eBay and search for "doorlock polarity inverter" you'll see a handly little device that's smaller and looks nicer. Your decision will probably depend on what you pay for relays, and whether you want to wait for shipping. 2. As kgreg said, definitely power up both ignition wires. If white wire is left unpowered, the transmission will go into limp mode (2nd gear and reverse only). However, you don't need to power the brown second-accessory wire. At least I never have. 3. You're wasting time and getting dirty running under the hood? Put the tilt wheel all the way down, and the transmission into low gear. Pull off the whole front dash panel that's around the instrument cluster and radio. There are no screws---it just unclips. The instrument cluster is held in place with four 7mm screws. There's plenty of slack and you can put the cluster on top of the dash without even bothering to unplug it. Tach is the only white wire in the instrument cluster harness.
