08 cobalt: ads alsl gm not programming

I had to go pick up my brother's sled from his g/f's house today (about a 4hr drive) while I was there he asked me to put a starter in her car. I brought every possible resource I could with me and after getting everything installed the ADS ALSL GM would not program. I followed the directions but the red light would come on with ignition, I would turn the key to start for 3 seconds, then return it to ignition, but the light remained red. Unfortunately I won't be back up there for a while, and I'm not sure when the car might be coming back down to me, but for my own knowledge for when it does, what could be wrong? I was not able to verify firmware.. I stupidly forgot to check it before I left, but I tested the ignition and acc inputs to the bypass and they were good. The car started perfectly fine with the key so that tells me the passlock wires were connected properly. I couldn't test the data wire, but physically the connections were all good. Everything seemed to check out but I still couldn't get it to program. Any ideas besides checking the firmware?Kenny

A couple of thoughts...

Firmware shouldn't be an issue with a Solo Series bypass module and a 2008 model year vehicle.

Try a Factory Reset and set the Install Mode & lock it in.

Verify a good connection at the OBD2 Pin 1 connection and the Ignition connection.

Make sure you wake up the BCM before starting the programming sequence.

Wait at least 3 seconds between each step.

While it is rare, I recently had an ADS DL fail to program.  Only thing I could figure was the Orange wire Data input was internally bad.  Swapped it out for another module and programmed on the first try.  Tried that same ADS DL on another ( different model / year ) vehicle with different firmware and it still failed to program.

Yea, I did all of the above.. lol. I wonder if maybe it was just a bad bypass then. I really though maybe the firmware was bad. I don't know how to actually "test" the data wire, but visually all of the connections were good... who knows about inside the module though. Thanks for the info. I may have to pick up a new bypass and give it a shot when they come down.Kenny

Just to check. There is no starter connection between the car and the bypass correct? The start is all controlled by a drop in accessory. So when during programming you turn the key to start for 3 seconds, the module is just supposed to see the accessory signal drop??? I'm not new to installing, but I've been out of the game a few years so all these data bypasses are still completely new to me... lol.Kenny
