repairing ignition wires

Hello! First time post-thanks to all for the wealth of information! I would like a second opinion on this before I do it-I am installing a new RS alarm system in my 1993 Honda Prelude. I have pulled out an old remote start alarm installed horribly years back- by a reputable stereo shop. To my issue: They used T taps on the ignition wires and in doing so cut 20 percent of the strands at each connection. The ignition wires are almost 10 awg. I was thinking about stripping back the insulation a half inch or so then wrapping 18awg stranded as tight as possible around the cut area, then soldering.   Will this work? Cause any issues-resistance and heat etc? Thank you so much for any input. Being high amperage wires makes me a little concerned!

Strip about 2 inches of insulation off your new remote starter wires and spiral them around the existing damaged area. Basically bridge the broken section. Solder the connections. Tape them up well and you should be fine.sparky

I agree with old sparkie. If you cut the wire at all you will be causing more resistance than the few missing strands you have now. The only way to properly fix it 100% is to get a new harness, which for a Honda should be fairly cheap and easy to do. Still not worth it as doing what sparkie suggests will create a solid repair. Remember electricity flows over the surface of wire/solder. The amount of solder added will out weigh any lost surface area of the wire itself.To master and control electricity is perfection. *evil laugh*

Oi! Watch that "old sparkie" comment - I'm the oldfart OldSpark! However, I totally agree and endorse both sparkie's & racerjames' replies, and I am very impressed by the " cut 20% of the strands at each connection" - an IMO very important observation. Why is it that the12volt attracts such talent - including OPs?
