I'm going to add a smartstart system using Viper 5906 car alarm. What concerns me most is the way on how to bypass OEM immobilizer - in my case Nissan NATS 2.0 transponder based.
Rather than using a bypass unit I think i'm going to install the transponder of the replacement key directly to the ignition switch. But le me explain my concerns.
Let's assume our car is parked far away in the nowhere. Let's also assume our thief is a professional bad guy. Terminator in this case. No - what will our thief do first. We've a starter kill relay and immobilizer bypass box installed.
1) break the window
2) alarm goes on - ok
3) open the door
4) remove/detroy steering column covers
5) alarm is still on - but noone cares
6) find the wires of the ignitios switch, but
7) what's that coil wrappped around the ignition switch?
8) track down the coil wire to the immobilizer bypass unit
9) destroy the box, take the key, start the car
10) starter kill relay is active.
11) just destroy viper main ecu (or brain how you call it :) [or remove power - this is one connector to pull]
12) alarm goes off
13) start the car, have phun
now my point is, you don't need to be a professional thief to see that that ziptie mounted coil wiring wrapped around the ignition switch isn't OEM. This is the master clue - yes here is a immobilizer bypass unit installed. And there is a replacement switch for sure.
How do u think about my concers? How did you solve it?

Remove the chip, place around ignition switch until you reach a position where the chipless key works REPEATEDLY.
Glue the chip with acrylic glue then carefully tape over with Scotch 33+ so it looks OEM, actually done that on the UK variant of your car.
Frankly if you use a bypass you'll have more security (OEM immobiliser).
There I've hopefully answered your question as for your concerns I think you're a bit OTT!!
Your thief has to get past the alarm first, and it's down to where you position things and how carefully you "stealth" your wiring.
Out of interest you can pull the instrument panel, get the alarm brain and the smartstart behind it.

ok. I think the answer here is really where and how to install car alarm units. zip-tie mounted boxes below the steering column aren't ideal.
I think i'm going to install the main unit behin the passenger airbag - you have to remove the complete dashboard to get this place. And you'll need alot of tools. For example to remove the steering wheel you have to remove airbag unit first which is secured with special torx with hole.
I'm aware I'm a bit OTT here with my question. My concern ist simple - i'll never have the security as I'd with OEM Nats. We can only make it harder. Mount strobes and at least two piezo pain maker sirens.

Much easier to pull the gauges. Lose the main units behind the instrument panel then bring the wiring down to ignition loom etc thus if your thieves pull the obvious lower panel they won't see anything. About 6 screws, no reason to remove the steering wheel.
