I purchased a DEI 555L to bypass the Passlock I on a 97 Grand Am.  There are 2 wires which I'm confused about and not sure where they go.

Violet (-): Input from starter relay.  Connect this wire to the (-) starter output of the remote start system.  I can't find a wire labled similar to this...... can anyone give me some hints?

Checking my manual I cannot find a wire with this label...... or anything even close.

Blue/Black: (-) Status input.  I have a non-DEI brand remote starter.

I have a Yellow wire labled "ground when running".  Is this the correct wire for the Blue/Black?

Below is a link to my wiring diagram, if someone could point me to the correct wires I would appreciate it.

Thanks for any help. :)

The yellow wire will work to connect to the blue and black wire, and then you will have to use a relay triggered by your positive out to starter and use the relay to send a negitive signal to the 555l, pin 85 negitive pin 86 positive from your starter out wire, pin 87 will be negitive and pin 30 will be out to you 555l.

you dont have to use the purple wire all you need is the pink ignition wire, yellow key side of r code wire
black yellow motor side of r code wire.
blue black to negative output from remote starter .
red constant.
black white not used either.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

Thanks for the reply zargon, I appreciate it!

I'm kind of new to the relays.  Will wiring it as shown here accomplish the same thing as what you mentioned?  I assume it will, but I want to make sure.  Also, you mention 2 negative pins (85 and 87) do the wires from these just go to ground?

As soon as I get your reply, I'll start wiring. 97 Grand Am, DEI 555L Wiring? -- posted image.

Are you 100% positive on that?  The manual says all those wires are required for a Passlock I install... they aren't required for Passlock II however.... 97 Grand Am, DEI 555L Wiring? -- posted image.

That's what I thought. :)

I hooked up the relay as zargon specified....... but the car won't stay running for more than 1-2 seconds.  The "good" news is that when it dies, there is absolutely no theft light.  Any ideas as to why it's deing so quickly?  I tested the BLACK/ White wire and the Violet wire coming from the bypass module and they read just under 12V constant even when they aren't hooked to anything.  I was under the impression that these wires were supposed to be -.  97 Grand Am, DEI 555L Wiring? -- posted image.
