I've got a problem with the relay and resistor method...this requires you to run the relay in series with the passlock wire.  this introduces at least 2 other failure options I can see....if the resistor bags out, or if the relay fails and locks out the security system (neither of which a customer will tune in on while driving their car 8 months after the install).  This is nothing but a disaster waiting to happen in my opinion.  We used to use the cheaper "dipswitch" passlock bypass (it too ran in series with the passlock wire) until one failed...the customer had her car towed, and after the mechanic spent WAY too much time on it, she called us and we verified the unit failed and caused the Passlock computer to go into lockup.

I'll NEVER use a system that runs in-series ever again for this reason...if the unit fails, the key works normally, and you get nothing more than a complaint that the remote start no longer fires the car (which I can live with!!)

is there a generic pldata for all OBD II cars or are they vehicle speccific. I too have had a dip switch systich fail

yes, jrilla, I do...only on request tho, cause I never feel "completely" safe on them.  There's always that chance that something will go wonky and leave the customer stranded.  If we do, I try and sell a "secret defeat" switch installed somewhere, so if the starterkill relay dies or whatever, they can flip the switch and bypass it temporarily...
