Hi, i've been an avid supporter of the 555L's and I was wondering if the PLDATA was an actual better item to use instead of the 555L? The reason i ask is becuz i'm having the install from hell on a 2004 Grand Am.

PLDATA is the best. Only 4 wires to hook up. Power, Ground, ground out when running from the RS and the the output to the vehicle which gets connected to the dataline at the OBDII connector.
You should still try that relay and resistor method i told you about, its soooo easy, especially now that you have all of the wires tapped.
Take a look at diagram 2 here for a pic:

I've read something 'bout the resistors messing up in colder weather, that's the only reason i'm alil hesitant with trying that option. All i know is that with the pain in the anus i'm having with the passlock 2 and the DEI 555L on that pontiac, i'm open to better idea's   LOL.

I've got a problem with the relay and resistor method...this requires you to run the relay in series with the passlock wire.  this introduces at least 2 other failure options I can see....if the resistor bags out, or if the relay fails and locks out the security system (neither of which a customer will tune in on while driving their car 8 months after the install).  This is nothing but a disaster waiting to happen in my opinion.  We used to use the cheaper "dipswitch" passlock bypass (it too ran in series with the passlock wire) until one failed...the customer had her car towed, and after the mechanic spent WAY too much time on it, she called us and we verified the unit failed and caused the Passlock computer to go into lockup.

I'll NEVER use a system that runs in-series ever again for this reason...if the unit fails, the key works normally, and you get nothing more than a complaint that the remote start no longer fires the car (which I can live with!!)

The PLDATA is for bypassing most Passlock systems made by GM. The PLDATA will not work with Passkey systems though.

yes, jrilla, I do...only on request tho, cause I never feel "completely" safe on them.  There's always that chance that something will go wonky and leave the customer stranded.  If we do, I try and sell a "secret defeat" switch installed somewhere, so if the starterkill relay dies or whatever, they can flip the switch and bypass it temporarily...

why do you ask?
