Hi,

I was wondering if you could wire a Viper 550HF alarm to the horn instead of the provided siren?

it depends on the output.... you may need a relay..
can you program the output of the siren wire to be pulsed?? i wont wire it to be steady. most alarms will give you that option.
what is the yr, make, and model of car. i will send the wire color to you.
also tell us what the output from the alarm is.
Good Luck

Thanks for the quick reply.

The alarm is a viper 550HF. I was going to use the siren output (+). The vehicle is a 1996 Chevy Astro Van. You can program the output of the siren to be pulsed.

yes you can do it....here is the info:
OEM Horn BLACK (-) STEERING COLUMN HARNESS
you will need a relay....
alarm wire to 86
30 and 85 go to ground
87 goes to the horn wire from above....
i would add a fuse to the 12v side of relay..(the alarm output)
Good Luck

To chop the horn output( I don't think that it was a programmable option on that old of an alarm) you will need 2 relays. Relay 1: 85 +siren output, 86 ground, 30 ground, 87 output to relay 2, pin 30. Relay 2: 85 +parking light flash output, 86 ground, 30 input from relay 1(pin 87 on relay 1), 87 - output to horn. Just another option.
