Sounds like a problem with the Passlock II system not being bypassed. Did you ertain the Passlock II bypass module when you switched units ?

before i removed the starter . I disconnected the battery negative post. The starter had previously had a recall, which modifies the original wiring. Now there is 3 wires connected to the big post on the solenoid. one is battery 2nd is to alternator and 3rd is resistor wire which goes to the radiator on a small plug in type connection which could be a resistor or something. The small s post is one connection red, which is also part of this recall. I wonder if this is a possible problem, Or if somehow this went into theft mode or the like. The radio works ok. but engine cranks and wont fire. I tried starting, left the key in run and waited 10 minutes for theft light to go out, but this didnt work either.

the recall you refer to will not affect the normal installation of an RS.... it reduces the amount of current between the switch and the solenoid. The signal from the key triggers the relay, instead of the solenoid. less of a toaster element effect.

Jeff: passlock 2 in a 96 ?

thanks for all your help, I found out the problem: When i installed the starter, there is a wiring bundle just above the oil filter , which is unable to see until the oil filter is off, I had apparently pushed this off when installing the starter: There is only about 1/4 inch between the starter and this wiring connection. After removing the starter again i noticed the wire laying next to it. reinstalled it and vehicle works perfect. Thank again. Gary
