OK, this one really has me scratching my head, and its my daily driver so I need to sort this out pretty quick before I have to give up my loaner car. Hopefully someone out there knows more than I.

Basically what I have done is installed a 5.7L V8 from a 1999 suburban into a 1994 Sonoma. I was thinking that this engine had passlock I with the resistor set up. My plan was to buy a new passlock module and wire it up so that it learned a resistor value of zero, and throw a switch inline for a kinda sorta anti-theft system that wouldn't require getting the computer reflashed (much $$$).

However, I finnally read the service manual on the VATS and learned that it has passlock II, which to the best of my understanding nixes my above plan. Does anybody have any ideas for permanantly getting around this? Can I use an older passlock module and go ahead with my previous plan? Does the passlock I and II systems send the same message to the VCM? Could I pull a VCM out of an older truck with a passlock I system and then use my plan? I don't really know a whole lot about this stuff and I am fresh out of ideas short of getting the computer reflashed, but I would rather not shell out that much dough if I don't have to.

I hope one of you electronics gurus can help me out. Thanks.

use a digital meter and measure the resistor value coming from the ing. put the meter on the wires and turn the car to the on position and then to the start position. the number on the meter is the value...you then should be able to use resistors to bypass the system.......

the wires will be small wire...that maybe white....STAY AWAY FROM ANY WIRES IN YELLOW LOOM OR SLEEVE!

I am thinking that you've installed a 1999 Vortec V8 into a 1994 truck, the Passlock II is built into the BCM on the 99 suburban, and disengages the fuel pump. I don't think you're going to need to anything about it as long as you have a PCM from the same vehicle.

You might want to do a search on google for such a swap as someone might have a stand alone PCM for that application. Try this forum
