My son installed a CrimeStopper RS 900 VII remote starter in a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer.

The remote starter works great all the time.  However, if you just want to start the vehicle with the key, the car turns over, but does not always start.  This does not happen all the time, just part of the time.

Any idea why this would happen?  Any idea how to correct the problem?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Does anyone know if this could be a faulty remote starter unit?  Customer claims that his keys worked just fine before the installation.  We can start the car with the remote and turn the car off with the remote just fine.   The key just does not always work when starting the car with the key and not the remote.

I checked with him and he used the PKF - II bypass which does not have a ring.  Any other suggestions?

I'd check to see if the (-) when remote starting is hooked up properly.I had a customer with a Explorer that we did a remote start and had to use an extra key. When it got cold the SOB would crank but not start with the key or remote. If we jumped the vehicle it took right off.He was getting rid of the rig so we just yanked everything out.We never did find out what the hell was the bug a boo.
