2002 Ford Explorer Keyless Starter

2002 Ford Explorer Keyless Starter Howdy y'all! OK first lets blame it on the wife. Wife ran into a pole(didn't get hurt)and left our Ford Explorer in the parking lot. It got broken in, they cut the battery cable. Called insurance and took it in the shop. They repaired the front end and replaced new battery cable. Now my key-less remote would not start the engine. It would make lots of noise and clicking and it would recycle for 3 times and it stop. Worst of all, even with the key in the ignition, it would not start sometime. Battery is fully charged. All electronic components work. It just wouldn't start. [called the shop already to take it in next Monday] Well last night it wouldn't start no matter what so I left it along. This morning I gave it a shot and it started. Drove to the store and back. Now it won't start no matter what. Please, any info on this related issues would be grateful. I just think we took it to a bad shop. I would like to know something so the shop wouldn't charge me because of their unprofessional repair of my vehicle. Thank you.Thank God for The12volt.com !

Did a search and I think it's not cranking because security system is not recieving proper code from the key or bypass module. Any tips or steps for this fix? Thanks again.Thank God for The12volt.com !

do you have an after market keyless enrty, alarm, or remote start installed. if so make and model.

Oh sorry. It's factory installed. I'm not sure what model it is but it came with our 2002 Ford Explorer. I have the booklet that only gives instructions how to use the remote and few problems and fixes via the remote control.Thank God for The12volt.com !

Thanks for the tips bobk. I did checked the battery. I disconnected and checked for any corrosion's but it's cleaned. I reconnected tight and firmly. I am getting power but it just won't crank up.Thank God for The12volt.com !

Crank as in motions and sound from the engine = no. Sounds and activities of electronic parts = yes. I checked the ground cable from battery to the frame and the engine. All in tack. I wonder if it's not the battery or the cable issue. It was kind of strange when I used the truck, I didn't have any probelm starting it with my key. But when wife tried to use the truck with her key, it doesn't want to start. (remembered this morning she used my key to start the truck but when she had to use the truck this evening it wouldn't start using her key, ah!] I guess it's off to the Dealer to Re-code her key. The only problem now is the Remote Start doesn't work. As long as I can drive it to the shop and get it fixed. Thanks for the help.Thank God for The12volt.com !

I had a similar issue in a 1999 Explorer. I used the Ford (no key required interface). Used the 2 original keys to program the bypass and things worked fine for over a year. The owner had no issues starting with his key and remote starting. When his wife tried to use the 2nd key the security light came on. The 2nd key wasn't being used very often and apparently the computer kicked out the code for it. Why, I don't know. I reprogrammed the 2nd key back in using the ford programming steps and the computer no longer liked the bypass interface module. I reprogrammed all 3 again and finally got the computer to recognise all 3 and haven't had an issue since. I guess a bunch of the Explorer's have this quirky issue.Steve G
