Hi all, I just bought a used car, from the look of the remote, I figure it's an Avital 2300 alarm.  The little light on the remote lids when any of the buttons are pressed, there is a toggle switch under the dash that I can turn the "alarm is on" LED on and off, also there is some kind of motion sensor under the dash that when touched, the LED would lid.  I'm new to the alarm deal, if someone could point me to the general direction, I would really thankful.  I can read a wiring diagram and dig under the car if needed.

My problem is that none of the buttons on the remote do anything, which general area should I be checking?

I would look at putting new battery and cleaning the remote unit with some rubbing alcohol first. The unit under the dash is shock sensor. The LED will light up if it receive any vibration. Touching it will do.
You are probably in valet mode as suggested. If you are able to get out of the valet mode you may be able to get something working with the remote.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.Bought a used car, alarm not working -- posted image.

Even if you were in valet mode, the keyless entry would still work, just not the security part---so that isn't the problem.
Avital is owned by Directed Electronics. Try going to www.direcred.com, and see if you can read the Install Manual for your alarm----you might try re-programming the remote.

Maybe keyless isn't hooked up.....
May have to program the remote to it.

i would check the power connector to the brain and also make sure it's plugged in and you actually have power to the brain....if it was in valet mode the LED would be solid all the time if i remember correctly....

The Led did stay lid solid if I switch to the off position, so I switch to the on position and still nothing happens.  One thing I want to be cleared, from the wiring diagram, the valet is a push-button type, but on the car, it's a toggle switch, does that make a difference.  Also, over the weekend, I had the battery diconnected to work on the car, when connect back up, alarm went off when I opened the door and the car would not crank.  I did something which I forgot and finally get the car to start.  Now it's back to before, no reponse from the remote.  So I think the system is still working and hooked up, but it's just not responding to the remote.  Any ideas?  Thanks.   Joe
