I recently installed a crimestopper 2011 in a 97 ford f150 after i wired it up i learned the tach . Then went out of programming and remote started the truck . everything was fine . turned the truck off and tried it again and the truck tried to start but stopped cranking early. After that it would not go in sequence ign.1 , ign.2 etc. it would just try to crank imediately and the brain smelled burned (no fuses ever blew anywhere inn the truck or remote starter) . I sent the unit back and they repaired it along with the reason saying that "source of failure, started kill output causing board failure and burnt components" and it said "check your current wiring to prevent this from happening again".
After recieving this i called them and they said that it means that i would need to run a 8 gauge wire to the battery and feed a relay for the cranking of the starter . Has anyone ever heard of doing this ?? I never had to do this in the past with any remote starters. Also can you think of anything else i should check before i install the brain again??

Do you have a Starter Kill Relay wired up??
Have you taken a AMP reading on your Starter Wire?
If the Starter section fried, there has to be a reason.....either Module ( which Crimestopper has thier problems ), Starter, or Wiring problem ( Install ).....
The Starter does probably draws between 20 - 30 Amps while cranking including the Solenoid..............
If you think it is the Crimestopper......Put a Breaker on the Starter wire & see
But I would want to check everything over twice to make sure

How do you have the Starter Kill wired??  What wires do the PINS go to ??

Are you using a SPDT ( Single Pole Double Throw )Relay?

I am using the relay that comes with the unit . it is still in the truck and it starts fine . It has 2 thick orange wires for the starter and a yellow (to alarmarmed output) and a blue (to ign.1)I think that the guy at crimestopper was saying to hookup another relay to the brown (starter) wire from the remote start so that it would trigger the relay and not draw amps through the remote start unit .i have the remote start wired in as follows .
   truck color        alarm color
12 volts- GREEN/ purple    red (2 wires)
ign. 1- blue/green    pink (blue from starter kill relay
ign.2-RED / black       pink/white
acc.1-grey / YELLOW     gray
starter-RED / blue      brown (interrupted w/ orange wires
from relay)
can you see anything wrong with this ?
thanks

Just trying to help.........
How do you have the STARTER KILL RELAY Wires hooked up??
Did you cut Starter wire in Half & wire per instructions?
Starter Kill Relay:
YELLOW = Orange wire of 2011
BLUE = Dk.BLUE / Green Ignition Switch
ORANGE = Red / L.Blue Ignition Switch Side Starter wire
ORANGE = Red / L.Blue Starter Side of Starter Wire
2011:
BROWN = Red / L.Blue STARTER Side of Starter Wire

mo,
thanks for the responses, i appreciate any help i can get on this project. Yes that is how I have the relay wired up . I put 2 other crimestopper systems in my other cars with in the last month with no problems. This unit did operate the first time and crapped out after that.
do you think it could have been a bad unit. I always would think it would be something in the install end before the bad unit ,but i am not sure here and i don't wanr to mess it up when i ppower it up again.
Have you done a 97 ford f150 before?? what were the wire color codes that you used for the install.
Thanks for the help!!

also another thing that is throwing me off is it never blew any fuses on the 2011 or in the truck , during the install or when the 2011 was malfunctioning .
thanks again

If you know the Relay wiring is correct, & the Starter doesn't have unusual drag, I probably would pass it off to a Bad Unit............

As i previosly posted:
"If you think it is the Crimestopper......Put a Breaker on the Starter wire & see

Either a Fuse or Breaker in line of the Starter wire from the 2011........
