I just bought a 1991 ford ranger truck that has an asrto start as1200 ,the battery has been replaced in the vehicle since the battery replacement the r/s is still working but the starter motor is staying engaged after the engine has started.I asked the previous owner about this problem,he said that it had done this once before after he had drained the battery and said that there is a procedure with pushing the hood pin down or pumping the brake after turning the rs off and on via the switch inside the cab.Is the true?and if so wat is the procedure to limit the starter motors engage time?

Is it a 1200, or a 2100?

The brain....is it square? or more rectangular in shape. One other question. The dip switches: are there any in the up position, or are they all down.

https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/downloads.asp?srch=all&term=&page_no=2 Heres a link to a couple of install manuals for some astro units. You need to relearn the tach.

Just went out and double checked the model and year on the r/s.It is as1200 and the date of manufacture is Nov.5 1998.I cut the zip ties from the box and removed it from the under side of the dash to look at the dip switches,it doesn't seem to have any on it!Any how I read the article about rel learning the tach from the link you sent, some good info in there, most I had time to do yesterday was pull the brain out and I made sure the wire on the coil pack on the engine still had  a good clean connection.any other ideas?I would hate to pull it out ,but I am ready to junk it and put another one in.

Depending on how many transmitters you have. Get them ALL ready.

Raise the hood, put the key in the ignition and turn it ON, push the brake 1 time.

Within 10 seconds turn the key on/of 3 times. The parking lights should flash 4 times.

When this happens, push 1 button on ALL transmitters you wish to program.

When this step is done, apply the brakes........... DONE!

Let me know.

Hmm just went out and tried the procedure you listed,I didnt get a flash from the park light,so went through with it anyhow and the starter motor is still staying engaged to long.I am not sure how long the starter is running ,but I shut the r/s off via the key fab.any other ideas?

I'm REALLY SORRY, I gave you instructions on how to re-program transmitters, NOT learn tach...... I have NO IDEA how/why I got your post confused with another...... You need to find the dips to program tach. They have to be there. Start the rig, put 1, 4, 5, 6, in the up position. Hit the brakes. put the switches down hit the brakes, shut the key off....try to remote start.

Dang it,sorry guys I gave you the wrong info. You are right kgerry,it is an "autostart".I took the brain out from under the dash, flipped it around, flipped it over and could not find any dips on it either...
