08 corolla, autopage unlock, trunk

Hi, you folks are great - I've learned a lot from your posts.
I just got a Autopage RF-215 security/keyless entry system installed in my brand new 2008 Corolla CE (w/o power locks) by a local installer for $260. Everything is working fine so far. Just a couple of questions:
1. Both the user's manual and Autopage tech said to press the unlock button twice within three seconds to unlock all four doors. However,
my remote does not work that way - I have to press the unlock button
and hold it for 5 seconds to unlock the doors. Anyone knows why?
I double checked with my installer and he said it should work that
way.
2. My installer also told me that I don't have remote trunk release
because there is no way to do that for a Corolla. Is that true?
3. While I am in the car with ignition on, I can
press the unlock button and unlock all the doors. This is really
good to letting people in without shutting the engine off. But how
how do I lock them again after that? Pressing the lock button does
nothing when ignition is on.

in order to get the trunk to open you have to install a trunk solenoid so it can work and the power lock unlock something is not right it should work with the l and u  bottoms you should get a second opinion it might cost you

but that's the only way way you are going to find out  best lock??

1. To have the aftermarket unit unlock only the driver's door first, and then the other doors, requires more time/labor.
Many (but not all) have the required outputs to connect this feature, but I'm not familiar with AutoPage.
About the holding-for-five-seconds thing, that doesn't sound at all right to me, but maybe an AutoPage installer will come along to explain better.
2. go on eBay and search for "trunk solenoid" and you should be able to find some things.
It's just an electric solenoid, with a cable.....you attach the cable to the latch mechanism inside the trunk.
It's super-simple in theory, but can be a big pain to get all adjusted and mounted so it works right.
But still, your installer is in error if he tells you it can't be done.
3. It's possible to add a separate switch(es), installed in the car, to control the power locks.
If your budget allows, you could buy one (or two) of the factory CE power lock switches from the dealer's parts department, buy the wiring that plugs into them, and have the installer connect them to activate the aftermarket locks...........it would look totally factory, although it would be expensive.
Also, any switch of the correct type would work. You need a MOMENTARY (important; this means the switch releases when you let go) Single Pole, Double Throw (SPDT) switch ...........    just search for "spdt momentary" and see if you find anything you like.
If you're crafty, you could also get some used switches/wiring from another car in the junkyard, and cut them into your door panels.

Where did you get this installed?  If someone else in this forum is close by you can definetely take it to them to give at least an opinion on how it should work.  As for the way your car works, just like others have mentioned in this post you should look for a second opinion.  When a installer states that he "can't" that is USUALLY, not always a sign of no creativity.  Anything can be done just that you have to pay more for it.

Thank you all for the info and suggestions. I'm in Irvine, Southern California. The installer is on 17th St in Santa Ana. This outfit has a pretty good reputation and has been around for 20+ years. I think they didn't want to installed the trunk because they quote me a very low price (alarm + keyless entry + 4 door actuators) already and like you said, you gotta pay for more. Anyway, about having to press the unlock button for 3-5 seconds in order to unlock all doors (I press it once, only the driver's side door unlocks), it is not really a problem for me right now. I think maybe it has something to do with how the unit was programmed by the installer? I just wanted to double check to see if that will hurt or shorten my unit. Again, thank you all for your help.

I am not familiar with autopage. Does it have a seperate trunk release button, or does the manual say to hold the unlock button for 4 seconds to activate the trunk release?
The installer may have hooked up the drivers door to the normal unlock output, and then the rest of the doors to the trunk release output. Most trunk release outputs require you to hold that button down for 3-5 seconds.

The remote has a separate trunk release (it has lock, unlock, trunk, "star"/silent, and II/2nd". The manual says to hold the trunk (not unlock) button for a few seconds to activate the trunk release. So every button seems to be working ok except this holding-unlock-button-to-unlcok-all-other-doors thing that is very weird.
