I've recently installed a motorolla hands free kit into my 2003 Monte Carlo, and it works beautifully.

Except for the mute option.

I have studied the subject thuroughly, and Ive learned how all of the communication from the radio-to the steering wheel mute button and the rest of the car is communicating on a class II data bus.

I have some experience with other bus controll systems, and I am familiar with the terminology, and I know I cant simply just mute my factory stereo.

I's there a provider of GM class II node "emulators" that I could splice into the bus and trip with my mute wire from the hands free kit and send the command through the data bus that "immitates the command my mute button from my steering wheel."

I dont know if the product exists yet but with the growing use of the class II data bus this may be a good product to develop!

I haven't seen or heard anything like that but I would love to see something like that.

Hi,I can't help you with your question butYOU seem to be "the guy" to ask about MY question-I had this post in the audio forum and didn't get a proper ansewer. Have you worked on S-10 blazers with the radio controls on the steering wheel? I have a 2001 S-10 that was a salvage rebuild,it has the factory delco radio, and like I said, controls on the wheel for the radio. The switches lite up with the panel lights but do not control the radio.I looked at the base of the steering colume for unplugged connectors and behind the radio but found nothing. It is possable that a 'used' wheel was installed when the truck was rebuilt.Does anyone know how to identify a declo radio that can be controled with the paddle switches, any info would be a help, color codes..etc.

About your S-10

In my quest for information on my problem, I remember seeing a Truck forum where they were discussing remotes on GM truck steering wheels. These were not running on the fore-mentioned data bus, but rather a much simpler method. I remember allso seeing add on steering wheel remotes specifically for GM trucks. Do a few searches for "GM steering wheel remote" and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

For that salvage vehicle, if the original factory harnes was cut and a reverse harnes was installed on there, you'd probably lose your steering wheel controls.  This has happened to me when doing XMs with the modulators.  For simplicity sake I always want to use a reverse and regular harness to get the +12 volt switched and +12 volt constant, but with many of these vehicles with steering wheel controls there are extra wires coming out of the harnesses and the reverse harnesses make by Scosche and Metra don't include these extra wires.  So when you do that method you lose the steering wheel controls.
