how do you raise a certain  portion of the carpet so you can put a logo or design in it. I guess it would called embossing it?

Cut the logo or words out from a harder sponge material or 1/8" masonite ( particle board ) and round off the edges or leave sharp. Glue this onto the surface that you want and carpet over it with spray glue.
