relay idea for intercooler sprayer

I bought a intercooler sprayer setup and it is setup with a factory relay that sprays a mist for 3-5 seconds then turns off. Is it possible to add a relay so that the following happens: Press switch (1) time for normal operation (3-5 seconds sprays w/factory relay) Press switch (twice) and it activates a different relay that relies on a boost pressure switch to trigger. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's no so much a question of a relay; it's the circuit to control the thing. Why not instead simply use a two-way SPDT switch that selects whether the existing controller or the boost circuit energises the sprayer relay?

I did think of that and have a bunch of those switches but i'm trying to utilize the factory switch still. link to the switch: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/impreza/WRXSTI07leftpanel1.JPG I'm sure I just over complicate things but just to retain a factory look. I already have the sprayer nozzle installed and just got the switch, tank, and relay to finish it up.

Maybe a rocker or toggle changeover push-button version of the same and a label transfer? Otherwise a toggle or changeover circuit. There are various methods like flip-flops or divide by 2 counters (4017) etc, or maybe see here noting also hotwaterwizard's later solutions. You'll then have to devise how you know what it is set to.

That may work.... I will be reading this tonight thank you! If all else fails i'm going back to the toggle switch....

I have this prototyped right now, but it works. I have two modes of operation in it's current configuration (auto and manual). In auto mode it uses the boost gauge tap to determine the psi on the line and sprays anytime the boost is above 12psi. This is hardcoded to the psi switch. Manual mode is just a momentary switch to spray when I want it to. In your case it sounds like you'd just need to connect it to your button vs the trigger switch I use. Do you have the JDM IC sprayer switch? What I did on my 04 STi is I picked up a JDM switch that is the main 'arm' switch (just an on-off switch). Then I used my USDM sprayer switch as a momentary manual sprayer. IIRC the sprayer used a negative signal to activate the factory timed relay so you can just rewire the USDM switch to send a momentary ground pulse to the IC sprayer.Kenny

I have a USDM Sti sprayer switch but swapped out the faceplate with a foglight switch but thats a on/off. I think i'm going to get a real auto switch and then use the normal switch for spray on demand.

I think I have the JDM switch and a pressure switch somewhere that I'd be willing to sell. I ended up going front mount on my STi so I have no need for it anymore. I've just been holding onto it in case I wanted to modify it down the road for something else. The switch has already been modified to allow the lighting to work properly.Kenny
