Is the truck a manual or auto?
Check to see if your brake pedal is sagging (or clutch pedal if MT). Sometimes there are two brake switches, one for cruise cancel and one for brake lights. If your pedal is sagging then it can trip the cruise cancel switch. You can also try lifting the pedal with your foot while driving to see if cruise will engage or not.
That is the easiest thing to check for that I have encountered.

Have you physically checked the under hood linkage? Try pulling on it, also ALL the fuses.

Then we are looking at switch or unit.
This is where you will need the wiring diagramme and a DMM I'm afraid.

Your local library but you won't be able to test without a DMM.
