I would like to know how to install an after market cd player in a 96 Ranger.  This truck seems to have an external amp and I would like to use it if possible.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  I purchased the Metra splice in for the harness but I get no sound when I plug it up.

Look on your harness adapter. Is ther a blue wire on it...? is it hooked to anything (from yopur aftermarket deck) on the O.E. plug, is there a wire at the point of the blue wire on the adapter?     This would be your amp turn on. Follow the harness down to the pass. kick (amp location) you can wire the deck to the speaker output side of the amp to bypass it. OR figure how to trigger it to turn on. I would bypass it!

Thank You very much.  I did realize that I did not have the blue wire connected.  I do appreciate letting me know about the location of the amp so now I may just bypass it.
