Hello i have been researching alarms for a little while and just came upon this sight.  I am fairly confindent that i will be able to do my own instal.  Only thing i am having a little hard time on is what type of locking system i have.  The car is a 91 volvo 740 wagon.  It has no locking switches.  Instead i pull the little rod in the top of the door panel up or down to lock and unlock.  Would this be a vacume locking system?  Can anyone give me any helpful advice on installing an alarm on that type of car or just any general info that a first timer might overlook?  Thanks.

Steven

It sounds like someone added actuators and a central locking door lock module.  SInce there are no switches, and the wire diagram for that car shows that it did not have power door locks.  Here is a link to something like what was added to your car.  Depending on when it was installed, you should look for a small box with a bunck of wires coming out of it that looks like it was installed aftermarket. I have very liittle info on that car, so it is likely not too difficult.  Good luck, I am sure you will be able to get the job done with a little help from the people on this site.  Ask as many questions as you need.  Be specific.  And ask them in the Car security Forum if it has to do with a remote starter, that way you will get more responses.

What you have is factory central locking - power locks operated by a switch inside the drivers door connected to the lock knob.  This is standard on all 740's.  You just need to add a new actuator to connect to the existing lock knob AND 2 standard relays to connect to the inputs in the alarm system.  If you can find the linkage and actuator from the passenger side from a junked 740 - it will bolt right in.  Otherwise a standard actuator (solenoid) will fit ( what I used ).  check this link for more info - http://www.swedishbricks.com/700900FAQ/Body-Doors1.html#Installation%20of%20Remote%20Power%20Door%20Lock%20Actuator%20in%20a%20740
