Toyota Highlander Stereo

Hi

I am planning on replacing my stock radio and speakers in a 2001 Toyota Highlander. The single din head unit will replace the double din stock unit (8 inches wide by 4 inches tall w\rounded corners). It should be able to screw to the existing brackets. I will also need to add a pocket to fill up the lower half of the cavity. I can't seem to find any trim kits that would cover the 1/2-inch gap on the sides of the head unit and pocket, to make it clean looking. Any ideas?

My stock speakers are 6.5 in the front doors and 5.25 in the rear doors. Crutchfield seems to think that I can fit 6.75 all around without any pronlem. They also believe that I can use my existing speaker adapters. I don't see how. The speakers appear to be molded into the factory adapter\spacer. I need some type of spacer since there is only about 1.5 inches between the sheet metal and the window. Does anyone know of an adapter I can use, or do I have to try and make something myself (what material?) ?

Hi sketman, you can purchase OEM replacement pockets for your vehicle from most car audio shops. If your local shop doesn't have them, locate a Metra dealer. For your speakers, you should be able to fit 6.5's all the way around. If depth is a problem for the ones you intend to use, depending on the additional depth you need, you can do anything from adding spacers (also available at most car audio shops) to modifying your door panels. BTW, 1.5 inches, although not a lot, is still a fair amount of mounting depth and you should be able to find many models that will fit without any modification. If you intend to make spacers, you can use Kydex, StarBoard, ABS, etc. or even Masonite if that's all you have so long as you can securey mount the speaker and seal the back wave of the speaker from the front.
