Im installing a 7" ceiling mount tv in my van. I do not want it to play through my reg. speakers. I want 5 headphones. I was thinking about getting five headphone jacks and permantly mounting them in the van to plug into. Have on amp, say 50-100 wattand hook up all of the head phone jacks to the amp. All positves to pos and negs to neg on the amp. I am using a 12 v VCP and hooking the audio out to the amp input. The head phones im getting have a thing on the wire to control the volume of the speakers. My question is will this work?

Thanks

It might, but I'd be careful about how much power you use. Headphone's don't take much to get really loud. You'd also want to watch the impedance on the amp. A suggestion is getting a commercial headphone amp (they are used in pro audio/recording for monitoring) and a small power inverter or something similar. I'd like to hear what others who have done this in car have to say.

My brother has headphone jacks in his suburban. But I didnt install them, theye were already in there when he bought it from the previous owner. But it appears to be a "whole setup". There are 4 jacks altogether, and each one has a seltor switch to choose between audio from the tv, or from the radio. I still dont know exactly how this system is wired up. But I looked on the rear of the switches (yeah I pulled em out) and each switch has a harness with about 10 to 12 wires on it. I dont see any name brand anywhere on these switches, so I cant tell you where to get them, but at least now you know they do exist. Oh, and by the way, I wouldnt recommend having these switches on an amp unless its 30 watts or less. My brother's is connected to his radio speaker outputs.

Actually, I think Headphones use much higher resistance, as they are resistance controilled. Read this for a little info: http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/headphone_attenuator.html

I think it would be wise to try and find some sort of commercial unit for this. Or go to someone experienced in this type of electronics.
