Been looking on websites, including Audiovox, and have downloaded the installation and operations manual for the APS-687A and 787A units. Nowhere can I see where it states the functions on the remote for the 1 & 2 numbered buttons at the top. Is it for programming extra functions besides the normal lock/unlock/trunk buttons?? Maybe I'm dumb but haven't seen it anywhere!

You're not alone, their manuals are poorly written. I even offered to re-write their manuals for them, but they didn't seem too interested.
Anyway.....
Blue channel 3 trunk release: Push and HOLD (four seconds) the remote start button.
GREEN/ black channel 4 output: Press and release #1 button.
Channels 5, 6, and 7 are NOT programmed from the factory. If you want to use these, you have to program the buttons yourself.
TIP: You can also use a combination of pressing multiple buttons at once.
For example, you could program the 2 button to channel 5, you could program buttons 1 and 2 together for channel 6, and you could program the Lock and Unlock buttons to channel 7.

Thanks a bunch for the info!! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. Have my choice narrowed down to the Prestige APS687A or APS787A, and Autopage RS622 or RS662.
Will post these choices for comments.
