A coworker has a 1988 F150 and he wants to change the speakers in his doors,i did have a look and i can see most of the screws, and i asume the bottom is plastic clips, but the problem is with the window crank handle, how do you get that out of the way ?,and one more thing ...what size speakers did it come from the factory with ?
Thank you

You can get a window crank arm remover from almost any auto parts store. If you do not have one locally you can use a 90 degree pick and wedge the pick between the crank arm and the door panel. You will need a flash light or work light to see the metal " U " clip that holds the crank to the shaft. If you manuever the pick to the center of the " U " and pull up you can pull the clip right out. ** Be careful though because the clip is spring steel and will end up springing out of the crank arm and you will have to go and find it. Place your hand over the top of the crank arm while pulling up the clip so it has no where to go.

6" speakers in the front doors, and 6x9s in the rear corners

Very nice tip jeff, wish someone had told me about the flying spring the first time i took one of those off!  Personally I prefer a hook pick tool but the 90 degree picks will work too.

Another thing I wish someone told me that first time:  when you're ready to put the door back together, the spring clip just snaps on to the center of the handle, not through the center as it may appear at first.  And it will only snap on once you've rotated it to the correct position.  You'll see what I mean.

6 1/4"?1988,Ford F150,how do you... - Last Post -- posted image. Don't you mean either 5 1/4" or 6 1/2"?

I believe either aftermarket size will fit, but the factory ones themselves are 6" I'm pretty sure.
