custom car audio questions

i am currently working on a custom box for my car. i want to put my amp in a box (vented of course) and connect it to my sub box. does anyone know if that would be safe for the amp? if not would anyone know how i could pull off the same set up?"Life's A Bitch...And I'm Her Pimp"

I personaly wouldn't connect anything to a sub box, you would be making the job of the thief to take your stuff easier. Unless if the box is secured of course.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with putting your amp in the same box as your sub...If you're worried about bass ruining the amp, it's not going to happen. The only thing that you have to be worried about with an amp is to make sure that it is in a well ventilated area where it can cool itself through its heat fins. (Remember to place the fins vertically so that the heat radiates upwards, HEAT ALWAYS RISES). But yes, BOLT THE SOB DOWN...make it hard for theives to steal it. Andrew Weitzel

I have had a different experience than wrencher 25. I had an amp bolted down to a box with 2 12's and the internal parts started coming loose. In fact the amp had a clear plexi glass top and I got to see the parts rolling around. But the amp was a pyramid so I am not sure if it was in self-destruct mode or what.

the name says it all donkason...that same Pyramid would probably be falling apart after sitting for that long inside a cardboard box on a shelf somewhere too... I guess someone should have just phrased it a wee bit different...if you have a good quality amp, it shouldnt matter if you install it inside the box...if the amp is large, dont forget to account for its displacement when designing your box and port! and make sure you get a good seal with all of the holes you will have to drill to run wires in and out...
