Which box to choose

Hi there i have 2 JL audio 12W6 and a Alpine MRD-M500. i was wondering which box do you think would be the best. I what it so people can hear me coming a 1/4 mile down the street. would a sealed, ported, or bandpass or what ever else would be the best for what i have. thanks alot

A ported box would shake the earth with deep low bass but you will sacrafice some sound quality.

To determine which style of enclosure that is best suited for you depend on a few variables. The type of music you listen to, the trunk size of your vehicle, how much room you have for the enclosure and the type of vehicle. They are just a few considerations you will have to think about when you make your choice. Once you have chosen your enclosure, the performance of your woofers will vary depending on the type of enclosure the woofer is placed in. Below are several enclosure designs which I have listed, each designed will meet specific needs and wants of an individual. In my opinion, there is no wrong or right answer in choosing the correct enclosure. It’s a very personal thing. What one likes, does not always work for someone else. So, make sure you get a big enough box that it will fit within the specification of your woofer. What you can do is go to a big audio store that have all three of this setup. Bring your favorite music CD and ask them to play it for you. It’s easier to make your choice when you are able to hear them all side by side. I personally like the woofers that you have in sealed enclosure. I hope this sort of help answer your questions. 1. Sealed enclosure. Offering great accuracy, best tonal quality and terrific low bass from a very small enclosure. 2. Ported enclosure. Designed to play lower bass louder than the sealed enclosure, power handling is great, and is more efficient than the sealed design. 3. Bandpass enclosure. Offering good frequency response and great overall output, however, power handling is the lowest of the three and it is also the largest enclosure of the group. Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.

Hey there thanks for all your help im going to go with the sealed enclosure i went to an audio store and took my amp and heard them all and the sealed sounded the best. Ive got one more question for you i have the Alpine MRD-M500 and it is 2 ohm stable now my subs go down to 1.5 ohms when i turn it up it cuts off. the guy at the place told me since it was only a .5ohm of a difference he thinks i should put in the resistors to handle it. will this work and right now i followed the chart and i have 2 10ohm and 2 27ohm. which should i change it too. thanks alot for your help. Sorry Ernie, but I do not know how to advise you in this question. I have only used a resistor on to a tweeter and have never experienced the affect of it on a sub.   I can only guess.
