I have an 05 chevy trailblazer and was wondering if an aftermarket stereo could be installed without using the gmos-01 interface, i do not plan on using the onstar and dont care about the stereo staying on after the ignitions off. Is there anything else that may be affected by not using the interface, and is it possible to do. thanks for any help.

It is possible.  But you will lose all warning chimes.

Just buy the Scosche Lan2 harness. It is a bit cheaper than the Metra one since you aren't going to use On star. If you have Bose sound though, you will need the GMOS-04 or the Schosche kit I mentioned.
Yes it is possible, but I wouldn't recommend it AT ALL. I personally can't install anything but the proper harness due to state laws. Reason for this is you are removing federally mandated safety features from the vehicle. Airbags is an example of this, and if you don't have them your vehicle is not street legal.
If you want basically you can use a 70-2003 harness, and run your ACC wire to the Orange wire at the ignition switch or a RAP wire in one of the kick panels (usually yellow). But you will lose:
Door Ajar Chimes
RAP feature
Low Gas Chime
Maintenance Chimes
Low oil Chime
(Some vehicles):
Blinker sound
HVAC control blower functionality
On Star
Sound (premium LUX factory amplified systems)
