        I have a 5 speed 95 plymouth neon with a Viper 550 ESP. This alarm has remote start basicly everything. the problem is that my friend installed the alarm and everything works but the remote start. The only way the remote start works is if you physically step on the clutch. If I turn it on by stepping on the clutch I can turn it off with the remote but I cant turn it on with the remote. The guy that installed it said it was a type 1 clutch but he didnt know what that was. And some people say you need to install a couple of realays to the clutch.But other people say you need to activate it in sequense. If anyone knows how to do this please help.

The clutch itself should have some sort of electronic switch which closes or opens when the clutch is pressed. Depending on the car, this then allows the car to start, when the clutch is pressed. You just need to find the wires going into the switch and determine which kinda switch it is. You can use a DMM and test continunity of both wires. If the DMM shows that the wire is continuous when the clutch is pressed, then you can use a single wire and attach it to both wires, thus bypassing the switch. I believe this is the case is most vechicles, as it was in most of the ones that I have worked on. I know in the Mitsubishi Eclipse, you must cut one of the wires for it to work correctly.

I’m just a newb, haven’t installed an alarm yet.....

Although I have been reading up on remote starts w/standard trans because I’m gonna try to put one on mine this summer.

Bypassing the switch is easy, but may be dangerous as the car can start in gear. I’m sure you know this, but here a link I found on some post on this site.

I think this is a rely you can connect to allow the car to be started if you shut it down in "sequence". Not too attractive of a solution imo......

Otherwise I think the only way to get a safe remote start where it starts in neutral only, and not have to perform a "dance" when you shut down is to install a neutral start switch similar to those found on automatic transmissions.

Unfortunately this is where my knowledge stops..... If anybody knows of how to fashion a reliable neutral start switch, or buy one somewhere please let us in on it!    95 neon manual remote start - Last Post -- posted image.

            I checked the clutch wires. There are a WHITE/ red and a white wire.I think when the clutch is pressed you get a constant 12 volts on one of these wires cause my guy fried his thumb trying different ways to do it. . But the thing is will i have to cut the other wire? Or if they both are constant 12 volt just connect them together? One more question what if they give out no voltage when the clutch is pressed? thanks for your help.

you should check each wire to see what happen to it with a DMM

    I checked the wires they have no voltage running through them even when the clutch is pressed.

      Has anyone ever installed a remote start on a manual neon?

I personally have not installed a remote start alarm on a neon, to date. However I have installed remote start alarms on manual transmission vechicles previously on the following cars, Ford Contour SVT, Honda Civic, Mits. Eclipse, and a Honda CRX.
The only thing that you can do to ensure that your car doesnt start in gear, it just to make sure that you put the car in neutral every time you shut down the car. And be sure to set the emergency brake as well.

How about a reed switch?  Connect it under the hood at the linkage.  Ive read of this and plan on trying it when i install my alarm.

Anybody installed a reed switch for this purpose?

I have a "97 Neon 5-speed. I installed a Crimestopper 2 way paging remote start car alarm on it. I did use my DVM to check the wires with the clutch out and again with the clutch in but I don't remember which wire did what. I do remember that I just cut the wires (took the switch out) and wired the 2 together. Being that there isn't that much difference between the "95 model and the "97 model I would think that this would work as well for you too. Just remember... check the wires first! It might just be a grounding switch. It might be hot one one side and not the other till the switch is depressed by the clutch. Either way... get in the habit of putting the car in neutral before you shut it off! If you leave it in gear it will become a lethal weapon! Trust me, the park brake will NOT hold it still! I tried!

      Audionut could you look at how you have the wires connected and tell me step by step on how to do this so I wont blow up my car or fry something.
