I just tried to install a Alpine N751AS into a 2001 Toyota Celica GT. First, can anyone tell me where the VSS lead is that I need to tap into? I looked into the diagrams available online here and a 99 celica was listed. I tried that lead but I suspect it is not working. Also the Rostra's VSS and tach page does not have my car.

As a side note, here is what the Nav is doing - I always seem to be travelling backwards and it never locks onto the road I am on. Upon closer inspection, I've noticed that it only updates my position as the GPS gets a signal. So in an area of poor reception I will show that I am not moving and all of a sudden jump to the proper spot. I assume this means I picked the wrong VSS lead!

Out of curiosity, what should my multimeter show on a speed sense line? Thanks for the help!

It should either show a ground or nothing, so hook the meter either up to continuity( black lead to ground and red to wire) or voltage(red to constant fused 12V and black lead to wire). It is digital and that is the way it will test. You will need to move the car about 10 feet forward and backword.

I actuallly found the wiring diagram for the car on a website. I had to pay a small fee but, that does not matter! You are right, it was a WHITE/ Red wire. Under the dash by the steering column is the cruise control ECU, it is easier to get to the wire from there. Connected it up and the unit works great!

I found a website that sells information on your vehicle, so I paid a small price and found it! The vehicle speed sensoris a white-red wire that can be found on the cruise control ECU. The cruise control ECU can be found under the dash by the steering column. It is all the way against the driver side wall. It takes a 16 pin connector. Pin 12 is White-Red. That is the one you want! As a reference, pin 16 is White-Black. I have a really good wiring diagram now, so if anyone else needs a 200/2001 Celica diagram, let me know!

I would like to know the website you went to ....I am also installing an alpine nav. in my truck and the one wire I am having trouble with is the vss ... thank you
