Hello all,
I posted about a year ago on installing this remote start unit on a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 and was provided with a lot of great information and help.

Well, I'm at it again. However, this time its on a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 HEMI. We all know what happens when we assume but inevitably I did. I figured both trucks would have the same ignition setup and I could wire the unit up the same way. On the 2006 I followed the Tech Tip #1084 to get around the Mux iginition wire with relays and the satellite harness on the unit. This worked perfect and still does. I figured I could do the same on this truck...not so much. I pulled the column covers of to find a different setup for the ignition wiring. I got back on this wonderful site and found that the wiring identification charts are different between a 2005 and 2006 ram truck.

At a glance it looks as though I wouldn't need anything other than the remote start unit itself (no relays, bypass units or using the satellite harness on the unit). But I've found conflicting information on other threads here. This truck doesn't have an alarm or transponder key (key is black). It does have power windows and locks but those won't be operated with this new unit. It is a 2500 but I'm thinking since its not a diesel it would be the same as a 1500. All of my wiring on the truck matches up with the wiring key in the link above for the 2005 Ram 1500. The remote start unit is the Avital 4113.

I guess my main question is: Can I wire the heavy guage 6 wire harness from the unit into the corresponding wires in the ignition harness, along with the other miscellaneous wires (neutral safety, brake, grounds), and not need relays or bypass units?
I know thats a lot of info and would appreciate any help!

for this vehicle you can do a direct connection of the starter to the ignition wires.
when using a convenience bypass module such as a fortin evo-all, that would handle door locks, tach, door triggers, transponder if applicable.
First wire the remote start, and if it doesn't start, you have a transponder key; at that point then think of bypass solutions.

you will absolutely need relays, that truck has a total of 2 ignitions and 4 accessories that all need to be powered. Your avital has the 2 ignitions but only 1 accessory.
if you used relays for your doorlocks on your last truck, then you can reuse those FOR THE 2005 doorlocks but you will have to change the resistors. if you are doing parking lights, you will need a relay for that as well. Unfortunately this is the worst vehicle possible when it comes to wanting to avoid relays.
you can get away without using relays for the lights and locks if you use a module. but no way around those accessory relays.
There is no neutral safety wire you can tap into this truck, ground your black with white wire with your ground wire or tie it into the safety switch that comes with the avital if you still have it.

So far this is sounding ok. I'm not wanting to have the door locks or parking lights operate with the remote start unit so I can avoid the relays there. And grounding the neutral safety is the same procedure I used with the 2006 truck just to simplify it. The unit has a "virtual tach" that detects charging voltage as soon as the engine starts up and this seems to work well on the 2006 truck. I assume it will work fine on the 2005.
It sounds like, as long as I don't want to operate accessories and the truck doesn't have a key transponder system, straight wiring the unit into the igniton wires should work...I'm hoping.
Any other insight?
My DVOM has it's own drawer in the toolbox.

Unless you want airbag, check engine, and damage to the abs system as well as abs lights, it would behoove you to hook up all the accessories. there maybe one that doesn't require connection but I don't remember which one it is. I strongly advice using relays.
you would think with Chrysler, the older the model the easier...not so, the newer the easier.
hopefully you still have the white four pin plug with the negative accessory out. it will have 4 small gauge wires, orange, purple, blue and pink. If not, ask your local Accessories shop if they can provide you one. they should be able to give it to you free. while your there buy 3 spsl (single pole, single thro)relays. preferably with sockets.
Wire as follows.
1st ignition (Avital Pink) to ignition in vehicle. (pink/white)
       
2nd ignition (Avital pink/white),to vehicle 2nd ignition   (pink/light green)
1st accessory Avital Orange) to vehicle accessory (dark blue)
3rd, 4rth & 5th accessory 85 of 3 relays tied together to orange on 4 pin harness
86 and 87 of all 3 to 12volts.
30 of each relay to each of the last accessories (3 pink with yellow stripes of different sizes.
   Make sure when you connect the 12volts of the relays that you connect them on the fused side of the 2 red wires, with 2 relays on each wire.
It may seem over whelming, but one wire at a time, at youll be fine.
If you absolutely cant find the 4 pin plug, than you can use the status (small blue/white stripe and substitute it for the orange connected to 85 of the relays in the step above instead, but I still recommend the plug, because this will change your accessories to ignitions, in otherwords they wont drop out during crank when you remote start. (requiring more cca from your battery).

one more thing, I forgot to mention, whats the point of having a remote start without accessories? (i.e. Heat, AC)

I see where you're going with this. I really appreciate all of the info in the post. So I guess I will be using relays. I do still have the satellite harness plug.
One question: The 3 pink w / YELLOW stripe wire for the other 3 accessories, are they also there in the column with the rest of the harness?

yep. all 3 will be in that group of wires. I believe they are all different sizes but all rather thick still.
